SUMMARY:SRR Self-Regulation for Resilience
DESCRIPTION:TRY Method Creator Joyce Bosen is offering this extra support session for anyone who may need it in light of the startling events that have unfolded at the US Capitol.\nThe term “self-regulation” is broad and used widely to define the process of guiding one’s own thoughts and behaviors to regulate our reactions. Through the TRY Method of Self-Regulation for Resilience, or SRR, the mind-body connection is engaged and utilizes guided imagery and sensory observation aligning the mind and body towards the same goal of calming the central nervous system’s fight or flight response. When these SRR efforts are actively practiced, the body and mind learn to engage SRR automatically resulting in “muscle memory,” which allows one to ultimately build resilience and subconscious or passive self-regulation.\nBe sure to take extra personal care of yourself during this time. Remember to use any of the healthy coping techniques that have helped you in the past. Reach out to others who can support you. Limit your exposure to media coverage, focusing on factual and reliable sources.\nThe Resiliency Center staff is here 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT to listen to, support, and assist you in finding services if needed. For 24/7 support, you may call or text the Disaster Distress Helpline at 1-800-985-5330 to connect with a trained crisis counselor. Visit resiliencyandjustice.org/trauma-coping-tips for strategies that can help you deal with distressing thoughts.\n
