Sunrise Remembrance Ceremony
The annual 1 October Sunrise Remembrance Ceremony will be held at the Clark County Government Center outdoor amphitheater in downtown Las Vegas. Attendees may wish to bring lawn chairs since limited seating will be available.
The event will feature the Southern Nevada Multiagency Honor Guard, a minute of silence for those lost and remarks from Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill, Clark County Commission Chairman Michael Naft, and Debby Allen of California. Allen’s son, Christopher Roybal, was one of the 58 who perished in the immediate aftermath of the attack (two others later passed away from their injuries). Roybal was 28 years old and a U.S. Navy combat veteran. The ceremony will also feature an acoustic performance of the song “Scars in Heaven,” sung by Allen’s son and Roybal’s brother, Jayson Williams.
Resiliency & Justice Center staff will be in the amphitheater at the ceremony at 7:30 a.m. and in the Rotunda Gallery afterwards to offer support and share information about our services available to anyone impacted by Route 91.
The Rotunda Gallery will host the “Remembering 1 October” from September 28 through October 8. It features a selection of items from the Clark County Museum’s 1 October collection, including banners, letters, cowboy hats, stuffed animals, and mementos left at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign and other locations as offerings of grief and support following the tragedy.
For those who cannot attend the ceremony in person, it will be aired live on Clark County Television (CCTV), as well as the County’s YouTube, Facebook, and X/Twitter channels. A recording of the event will be available on-demand later in the day on the County’s YouTube and Facebook pages.
